We made it! Although a pretty big part of me is sad as well. I’m happy to move on from herbs (no offence intended to any Herbs out there. I’m sure you’re great). I do feel like I learned a fair bit doing it though, so definitely not a loss, but the end of herb […]

Finally, an opportunity to use that phrase without the imminent embarrassment of sounding like I’m somebody’s mom trying to sound cool and/or young and hip. Although a) I’m about 20 years too late for “What’s the Dilly Yo?” to be used by anybody even 5 seconds younger than I am and b) Who am I […]

Knowing that strawberry season is “basil”-ly at an end causes unknown quantities of tears and sadness for me. Maybe the rest of you are all just like “you’ve eaten one strawberry, you’ve eaten them all” or “Bah! They’ll be back again next year, stop your whining!” But will they be back? Will they!!!?? Ok, they probably […]

I know, I know, you’re “themed” out. All I have to say about that is, that’s a crying shame, but I, unfortunately for you, am not themed out in the slightest, and so, here we are again at the beginning of another culinary adventure! 🙂 This time (in case the title wasn’t a dead giveaway), […]

Final Pan Am post! Aren’t you excited? I know I sure am! (well…I’m actually most excited about getting back all my lost “can’t drive in the 3+HOV lane” time). Don’t be sad about this being the final post though, I don’t want to cause a Pan-demic! (yes, I literally only included that sentence for the horrible […]

Éclairs!!! I feel like I’m super embracing my French background this year what with the macrons, the madeleines, meringues, crème brulée and now éclairs? I probably should’ve forgone doing something French in favour of doing something from….well…anywhere else really. But is it really my fault that the French know their desserts? Why should I punish […]

Week two of international month brings us to what I can now with all authority say is a delicious African dessert. There are apparently many different versions/ways of making Kashata which, in my opinion, makes it a little easier to play around with and turn it into whatever strikes your fancy. Essentially it’s an African coconut and/or […]

However, I will say that, as with a lot of things I’m not the biggest fan of, the games can definitely be a jumping off point to creative genius in the kitchen. On that note, I will now welcome you all to another themed month born out of the irritation that is the Pan Am […]

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! Ok, now that that I’ve got your attention, I need to caveat that, despite the name of this blog, these cookies are actually not really very sweet (except for the jam part of course 🙂 ). To be honest, that’s what I personally quite like about them. They’re really more like a […]

About Amber

Amber Profile

Hi, I'm Amber Trudeau.  I bake.... a lot.

I'm also vegan, and found that whenever I went out to a restaurant my dessert choices were limited to sorbet, sorbet, and sorbet.  So I started making my own desserts. I wanted them to taste good though - so my ultimatum was to make delicious desserts that also happen to be dairy-free and egg-free. Every week or so, I challenge myself to try something new.  To recreate some kind of traditional dessert that tastes amazing without using animal products.
